As AI has learnt how to write code in 2020, Software Developer and Computer related Jobs are now at risk

Hi all, here we are again with a concerning topic which will give you a shock. As from the heading you all would have guessed that its about the risk of losing Jobs to the AI.

In 1970 a book named "Future Shock" was published by Alvin Toffler who was the famous author and futurist of his time. He made the argument that the modern world disorients people as it creates so many overwhelming changes that we are unable to handle them. Almost 50 years after the book got published, the statement fits best for the year 2020.

This year(2020) has shown many ups and downs but mostly are downs!

So, let's dive into the topic as to how AI has learnt to code and how will this impact the jobs that require coding or any type of computer-related jobs.

The Beginning :

A few years back, when researchers discussed whether AI could write almost whole code by 2040 or not, this year(2020) has answered them as the OpenAI's GPT-3 (improved model released in 2020) is the first step towards it. Yes, you read it right, the AI which has learnt how to code is non-other than the OpenAI's GPT-3. And it is now in use by beta testers around the world and it can already code in any language.

This video is very interesting as it looks up the state population and people's twitter usernames to find the demographics of a region!!! This can be a direct contravene of our privacy in the near future by the AI if we do not use it wisely.

There are hundreds of example of these type of use of GPT-3 model(like generating Latex Codes, generate Social Media Posts, etc.) where the capability of AI can be seen from its early days! 

So, you can see from the above examples that the AI can easily tackle these task without much of the human intervention (and that too for passing the initial parameters).

A rough analysis of the accuracy of the model:

Below, you can see the graph presented by the research group of OpenAI which shows that the AI nearly reached Zero-Shot (accuracy level of that of a Human Being thinking) when given around 175 Billion parameters to train on. And this number will only increase in the future, hence you can expect AI to take over the human intelligence by 2035!

Oh my god! where are we going with this new AI, it is unthinkable as this is just the beginning of the era of AI into existence and the AI has not unleashed its full potential.

So how are these going to affect Software Developer and Computer related Jobs?

By now all you have started to get an idea as to how this can affect the jobs in the market. But let's just discuss some of the possibilities here:

1. Companies will likely see this as an opportunity to cut costs which are spent on the salary of Developers or other Computer operators, as those work can be done with the AI with high accuracy and minimum error.
2. The competition among the developers will increase tremendously as they will be competing with the AI for the high accuracy and minimum error results which will eventually decrease jobs in this sector.
3. Any error by the employee will result in firing from the Job. So, stress and depression in the employee's life may increase!

and so on.....

The Conclusion:

These are just a subset of the set of examples that can deteriorate the Job positions in various sectors. 

We will face future shock in the coming years, hence we have to be alert from the starting for the coming challenges to be faced by the humankind!

We discussed just the Computer domain in this post as this sector will be affected primarily and at its core (as we know that coders are the core of Industrial Computer Science and if the core of this industry is replaced then the existence of human coders and their job will vanish!) but this applies to most of the sectors that rely on the internet.

There is no reason and no way that a Human Mind can keep up with an Artificial Intelligence Machine by 2035.
